Lesson Plan Justification and Analysis Essay - 3213 Words

Analysis of the three identified stages stated on the lesson planner shall take place within this assignment. Links will be shown between the teaching methods that were incorporated in this lesson planner which met particular learning characteristics, traits and needs of the group or an individual(s) and relevant educational and theoretical principles. The lesson planner has been placed in the appendices, as a referral resource, for this assignment. An area on the lesson planner labelled, ‘Implementing the Lesson,’ (see Page 5 of Appendices One) illustrates the timings and activities of the session. Out of these the following three timings and activities that the learners completed, have been chosen. Firstly, I will examine the†¦show more content†¦However, Thaine (1996b) defended the usefulness of session planning and argued that if the tutor chose to make things up as they went along – having no real indication of the session aims or outcomes, †Å"then nothing useful or meaningful can be achieved,† (Malamah-Thomas, 1987: 3) for either party. It is based upon this principle, therefore that the session aims and outcomes were written on the Smartboard for my learners. However, my placement does not categorise learners according to their learning styles considering these questionnaires to have failings and that they, â€Å"are not foolproof,† (Mainwaring, 2009: 249) and so I was unable to complete Box 3.1 (see Appendices One). I can understand this process of not categorising your learners as Mainwaring (2009: 249) states, â€Å"it is useful to develop your ability to work with other learning styles,† and not to, â€Å"refuse to work with ‘listening’ or ‘doing’ materials,† (ibid). However, since submitting this lesson plan I can determine that three are kinaesthetic learners, whereby the y, â€Å"think best when moving,† (ibid). The remaining two learners prefer, â€Å"rules when learning numeracy techniques,† (ibid). Although, Box 1.3 (see Appendices One) has stated that there were 9 learners on the register, this has since been reduced to 5 learners, JO’C, GP, JG, RS and TT. A Research Into The Reform Of Education - 967 Words

Through my research into the reform of education, I have had my eyes open to some of the most terrifying and most positive potential change that my future may hold. With my upbringing, I was taught in some of the best schools in St. Tammany Parish. The teachers were always there for you and your needs, the facilities were kept clean and safe, and the neighborhood I grew up in was actually pretty good. I have seen the school system through the eyes of a student, but now I am beginning to look at it as a future educator. Michelle Rhee is the Chancellor for Washington’s District of Columbia, and her task was to turn the school system on its head to improve student achievement. She has several years experience in dealing with the school system in its entirety, many do not believe in her methods. One person that is completely against her is Diane Ravitch, a woman who has served as the United States Assistant Secretary of Education in her past, and is currently working as a researc h professor at New York University s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. Ravitch has also been working as a historian of education and an educational policy analyst. I believe it is safe to say that she knows a thing or two about education in our country. The main question is, where do we begin to reform our poorly organized school system and how do teacher’s statuses play a role in the middle? First off, at the beginning of Rhee’s changing of the system, manyShow MoreRelatedEducational Reform Research : Bilingual Education1691 Words   |  7 Pages Educational Reform Research Paper: Bilingual Education By Sylvia C. Guhyasmaja Akshobhyavjra with Consort Essay Example For Students

Guhyasmaja Akshobhyavjra with Consort Essay For this paper, I have chosen the paintings that captivated my attention the most when I went to the Rubin Museum of Art. Frankly, I was not expecting much from Himalayan-Tibetian art. Nevertheless, when I saw Guhyasmaja Akshobhyavjra with Consort and Shri Devi, I completely changed my opinion and perspective. There was no doubt that I would choose these paintings for my homework assignment. In order to understand them, one needs to know a little bit about Tibetan culture which emerged from different Buddhist practices, namely Mahayana Buddhism and Vajrayana. They both utilize different techniques that fuse a variety of visualizations during meditation; therefore, most of Tibetan art may be seen as aids to these visualizations. Tantric dieties also play a key role in the esoteric religious practices in the Himalayas. These deities personify many human qualities and may appear either peaceful or wrathful. Undoubtedly, the influence of these tantric deities is clearly shown on my paintings Guhyasmaja Akshobhyavjra with Consort and Shri Devi. The composition of these Tibetan paintings is very extraordinary and differs from what most of us expects to see in the work of art due to strong religious components and references incorporated in the creation of these paintings. One may notice the rigid hierarchy among the figures that ultimately affects the whole composition. In Buddhism, there are various gods and goddesses who can be divided into several categories depending on their main purposes, like the protectors and the wisdom kings. On the paintings one may find some very fearsome deities aiming to scare away demons and evil spirits. For example, in Shri Devi Dorje Rabtenma, the central deity is a human-like creature that rides a horse and swings his sword. It is surrounded by dozens of other figures. On the very top, one can see Buddhists devotees who pray with their heads titled forward. On the bottom and the sides, there are diffident kinds of demons hiding in the bushes or reaching out their hands to the central deity. On the other hand, in Guhyasmaja Akshobhyavjra with Consort, the central deity is not frightening; it is rather peaceful in appearance and resembles a Hindu god, Vishnu. Just like that of the first panning, the composition of Guhyasmaja Akshobhyavjra with Consort is filed with the main, central deity and then many other secondary figures on different sides of the painting. By the color palette, one may easily identify the origins of these paintings. It is very vibrant and colorful. The materials (Ground Mineral Pigment on Cotton) used are also very common for that region at the time. The skin of the deities both fearsome and peaceful is colored in black which presumably emphasizes their importance in the eyes of the viewer, and one can tell right away what figure(s) he or she sees on the paintings. It is worth mentioning that secondary figures are often (not always) colored differently. They might have different skin tones and colors from yellow to blue. They are absolutely magical and mysterious creatures, primarily demons and evil spirits, which may take a great variety of forms and shapes, and their appearance is only limited by the imagination of the artist. Additionally, the painting are ornamented with floral patterns all over the place. The artists attempted to fill in the blank space in order to create an illusion of the unified scenes; although, the secondary figures do not seem to interact with each other much on both paintings. For a not Himalayan-born person, these paintings may seem a little bit too hard to fully understand. At first glance, one notices the huge difference between European and Asian art. However, as one continues to analyze the composition, color palette and so on, he or she may come to the conclusion that there are certain features that tie together European and Asian cultures. .u4e2c62f7327ff1b6bb3bb5ae772a3fc1 , .u4e2c62f7327ff1b6bb3bb5ae772a3fc1 .postImageUrl , .u4e2c62f7327ff1b6bb3bb5ae772a3fc1 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u4e2c62f7327ff1b6bb3bb5ae772a3fc1 , .u4e2c62f7327ff1b6bb3bb5ae772a3fc1:hover , .u4e2c62f7327ff1b6bb3bb5ae772a3fc1:visited , .u4e2c62f7327ff1b6bb3bb5ae772a3fc1:active { border:0!important; } .u4e2c62f7327ff1b6bb3bb5ae772a3fc1 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u4e2c62f7327ff1b6bb3bb5ae772a3fc1 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u4e2c62f7327ff1b6bb3bb5ae772a3fc1:active , .u4e2c62f7327ff1b6bb3bb5ae772a3fc1:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u4e2c62f7327ff1b6bb3bb5ae772a3fc1 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u4e2c62f7327ff1b6bb3bb5ae772a3fc1 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u4e2c62f7327ff1b6bb3bb5ae772a3fc1 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u4e2c62f7327ff1b6bb3bb5ae772a3fc1 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u4e2c62f7327ff1b6bb3bb5ae772a3fc1:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u4e2c62f7327ff1b6bb3bb5ae772a3fc1 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u4e2c62f7327ff1b6bb3bb5ae772a3fc1 .u4e2c62f7327ff1b6bb3bb5ae772a3fc1-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u4e2c62f7327ff1b6bb3bb5ae772a3fc1:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Paintings: Quezon City and San Isidro Labrador EssayJust like the works of Renaissance artists, these paintings carry a strong religious message to the viewer. They also attempt to overwhelm him or her with the vibrant color palette and the scale of the paintings. However, there are numerous unique differences that drastically differ European and Asian art, such as artistic techniques and styles, texture and space properties, and so on. All in all, the artists did a great job conveying their message to the viewer by highlighting the importance of the characters and their religious objectives.

Langston Hughes Essays (1227 words) - Harlem Renaissance

Langston Hughes The Harlem Renaissance was a great and powerful era in black history. Blues and Jazz flourished throughout the streets of New York, and young black artist began to arise an important part of this era had to be the inspirational writings of Mr. Langston Hughes. Born in Joplin, Missouri, Hughes was raised by his grandmother after his parents had divorced. He graduated from high school in Cleveland, Ohio and went off to Mexico to live with his father for fifteen months. While in Mexico, Hughes lived a very rural life and wrote many of his first poems which although never published began to distinguish him as a writer. He soon returned to home for a short period in 1923 before he joined the crew of the SS Malone bound for Africa. From there he visited many places including Paris, Venice and Genoa before once again returning to America, to live in Harlem, New York. Although it was not until 1926 that Hughes was officially discovered as a poet, he wrote many poems while still in high school. While working in Washington D.C. as a busboy, Hughes left three of his poems beside the plate of Vachel Lindsey, an American poet, who liked Hughes' poetry and helped him publicize his writings. Living in Harlem, he soon discovered the Culture and literary circle of the New Negro Writers. As best said by the Health Anthology of American Literature, ?Hughes made the spiritual, blues and jazz the basis of his poetic expressions.? Which in fact he did in some works such as The Negro Speaks of Rivers, and The Weary Blues. Most of his influences came from fellow black writers. Names such as, Dubois, Locke, Jesse Redmonfaset, Jean Toomer, Arna Bontemps and Carl Van Vechten, inspired Hughes in his form and writing style. His poems often portrayed the trials, tribulations, struggles and thoughts of a young Negro growing up in the twenties through sixties. His main goal was to concern about the treatment of African Americans in this country, and to pursue civil and social justice. One of his most famous works would be his continuing sage of Jesse B. Semple also known as Simple. Hughes wrote columns about this fictional character, who dealt with very non-fictional problems. Jesse, was really Hughes' voice who expressed the views and ideas of young black Americans. Creating Simple to be smart, strong witted and wise, allowed Hughes to publish and undermind the standard of our pretentious society, while ironically and humorously pointing out the hypocritical nature of American Racism. Hughes went on writing four series of writings about Simple including Simple speaks his mind (1950), Simple takes a wife (1953), Simple Strikes a claim (1957), and Simples Uncle Sam (1965). Hughes used a variety of themes in both his poetry and his prose. His voice was very moving when he read his poems publicly. His voice was both rich and poetic and gave strong inspiration and love to the black community. He was a great writer who completed a two volume autobiography, and edited many anthologies and pictorial volumes. Hughes dazzled writing for forty years and never gave up protesting for the rights of African Americans. He gave many motivational speeches across the nation supporting the black movement. Hughes continued his career publishing many books of poetry and prose. One of his particularly interesting poems was this one entitled, Cross. Cross My old man's a white old man, and my old mothers black. If I ever cursed my old white man, I take my curses back. If ever I cursed my black old mother, and wished she were in hell. I'm sorry for that evil wish, and now I wish her well. My old man died in a fine big house, My ma died in a shack. I wonder where I'm going to die, Being neither white nor black. This poem explores the deepest emotions and troubles of a young man born into a world of confusion. Confused by his heritage but arrogant in his pride. He is growing up in the whirl of a white society, and cannot decide whether he is white or black. Hughes, using a black mother and white father, completely makes it easy for the reader to understand and almost foreshadow where this poem is going. It

Employee Motivation Strengths and Weaknesses

Executive summery Many organizations strive very hard towards ensuring that their employees are adequately motivated. Humana Insurance is a well performing company that needs to emulate the behaviors of such organizations. Despite its effort in ensuring that its employees’ welfare is well catered for, the company still needs to make some adjustments concerning employees’ motivating factors to emerge the leading organization in addressing the needs of employees.Advertising We will write a custom term paper sample on Employee Motivation: Strengths and Weaknesses specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The company has numerous opportunities at hand that can enable it achieve this fundamental goal. The following brief report examines these available opportunities, the past research that has been carried out concerning employee motivation as well as the strengths and weaknesses of such researches. In addition, the report provide s an analysis of how Humana Insurance Company can adopt more strategies to improve its business performance and incorporate them in its decision making program to achieve more employee satisfaction than before. Introduction There are several ways of enhancing service quality in an organization. One such way is through having efficiency in employee performance. The effectiveness of the employees can be facilitated through having skilled, experienced and knowledgeable workforce (Bedeian, 1993). Employees gain experience through repeated series of works. Employers prefer retaining personnel because of associated costs of recruiting new staff, for instance the cost of training. The existing employees of an organization too possess the prequisite experience that is needed to enhance the organization’s performance. Therefore, employee retention becomes a priority in an organization. However, employees cannot be retained without first motivating them through meeting their expectatio ns (Lindner, 1998). Subsequently, all organizations are using any method at their disposal to motivate employees and the strategies adopted differ from organization to organization. Humana Insurance needs to initiate such excellent plans that are aimed at motivating its labor force. This can be achieved through provision of several employee benefits, as it will be observed from the following report. Problem Statement There has always been a controversy on whether employee retention can be enhanced by high monthly remunerations without any associated benefits or through offering minimum remunerations and additional basic benefits. There have been rising complaints by many employees with regard to their employers not providing them with adequate benefits that can motivate them in their places of work.Advertising Looking for term paper on business economics? Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More The principal cause for many employees to abandon their jobs is due to lack of motivational incentives and other benefits from their employers. That is why poor performing institutions lack adequate measures to motivate their employees and absorb new ones from outside. The opportunities available for Humana Insurance to motivate the Employees Humana Insurance is one of the most successful and good performing insurance companies in the United States. There is need to motivate its employees who have contributed largely on this achievement. This will be a move aimed at retaining them to ensure that the status quo of the insurance company remains as well as its competitive position in the insurance industry. Humana insurance can use several approaches to motivate its employees including but not limited to competitive remunerations, health benefits, appropriate pension schemes, medical covers among others. The company’s performance gives it enough reason to give adequate incentives to its employees in order to continue increasing its productivity and performance. It has the ability to retain all the existing employees due to huge resource and capital base. Many companies fail to guarantee benefits to their working staff due to poor performance and the extra employee benefits may lead to huge spending on the part of the company (Harpaz, 1990). However, this might be a disadvantage to them since employee motivation leads to improved performance and high profitability for the company. There are mutual benefits between the employer and the employees when the employees are motivated. Despite the fact that Humana Insurance has been having excellent employee policies and programs, it should take advantage of its massive opportunities that are not available to many companies to satisfy employees more. The company needs to have additional motivational benefits to its labor force. The worst thing that can happen to a company is when it loses the most important and well performing employees (Maslow, 1943). Humana Insurance has experienced labor force that the organization cannot afford to lose otherwise the company’s delivery of services to customers will be affected to a great extend. This is an excellent opportunity for the insurance company and the organization need to continue with its existing employee motivational programs. Literature Review Several studies have been carried out with regard to employee motivation and the possible motivating factors. There has always been desire by human resource experts to determine the structures that should be put in place to ensure there is maximum employee retention on their places of work. Lindner (1998) points out that favorable work environment and attractive pay are principal motivating factors that can keep or retain the employees in their places of work.Advertising We will write a custom term paper sample on Employee Motivation: Strengths and Weaknesses specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Le arn More However, he holds that these are not enough since employees are interested in well-designed reward systems for instance job enlargement, job satisfaction, promotions as well as non-monetary compensation that too need to be given a priority. When it comes to implementing appropriate remuneration packages for employees, the prevailing economic circumstances have to be taken into consideration in order to make the necessary adjustments (Vroom, 1964). This is because cost of living may be affected by economic phenomena and therefore the living costs need to be matched with people’s incomes. Working people are concerned about their future after retirement. Guaranteeing them future income that will be able to sustain them and enable them earn their living during this particular period will serve as big motivation to them and organizations that have succeeded in implementation of such pension programs attract employees more than others. Employees are not motivated primari ly by money. There is a direct link between the behavior and attitudes of employees (Maslow, 1943). This implies that the employee’s perception of the work he is doing will reflect the behavior of that particular employee and thus the dedication and commitment. Non- monetary aspects are equally important in motivating an employee. Employees feel honored when their work is being appreciated even with absence of rewards. They can also be rewarded through promotions whenever hard work and their contribution towards the organization’s success have been recognized (Bedeian, 1993). The other fundamental motivating factors to employees are employment compensation that includes provision of medical cover and insurance schemes for the employees. These assist employees and their family members or relatives in times of emergencies though covering the financial costs incurred. Job satisfactions that are linked to the circumstances under which the employees are doing their work hav e an influence on motivation of employees (Lindner, 1998). Therefore, personnel management of an organization must put structures in place that will ensure that employees derive maximum satisfaction from their work environments. Strengths and limitations of the past research The literature review discussed above relate to past researches that have been carried out about employee motivation. The strengths of the research can be viewed from beneficial perspective of the organizations.Advertising Looking for term paper on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Better understanding of what motivates employees and incorporating the knowledge in the reward system can really help an organization in achieving its goals through hiring, training and retention of productive workforce (Lindner, 1998). It is quite evident that having strong and excellent motivating factors in an organization has helped several organizations in maintaining consistent and effective labor force. The weakness of the past research is that not all the organizations have the resources to enhance the employee motivation. An organization may not be financially strong enough to implement various employment benefits for example medical cover and insurance schemes to motivate the employees (Vroom, 1964). The research failed to provide solutions to such organizations to increase the employee retention and motivation like other huge organizations. Appropriate strategies to guarantee Humana’s business success and employee motivation Humana Insurance Company is in a positio n to implement strategies that can increase the employee motivation levels. To improve the business success, the company will need to be dedicated to ensure that every business decision it makes is a true reflection of the company’s commitment towards the welfare of the employees. People and especially workers have desire to learn new things and improve their work performance. Every employee feels happy whenever he/she attains some tangible achievements. Humana Insurance can introduce intensive training and development programs in its company to increase the effectiveness of the employees. This will save employees from incurring extra costs while undergoing training to improve their skills. Humana’s management should create a good working environment that is free from discrimination, injustices, harassment or any other form of abuse. No organization can satisfy its employees when there are malpractices in its management like corruption scandals or unfair judgment on th e part of employees (Harpaz, 1990). Fair treatment will ensure that the employees work hard because they are very sure they will get what they deserve out of their hard work. The work force needs to receive fair and equal treatment with regard to salaries, compensation benefits and working hours. This strategy can work well in motivating the employees since they are guaranteed of getting precise reward for their hard work. Humana Insurance can also allow the employees form a trade union that will fight for their rights and provide a channel through which they can communicate their grieverances. It is like guaranteeing the employees some form of freedom since they can express their opinions and views without any fear (Lindner, 1998). This motivating factor can have an impact on the employees since it provides them with comfort and hence the better performance in their duties. Humana ought to provide the employees with humane working environment by instilling the appropriate safety me asures in all the company’s places of work. No employee can be willing to stay in a work environment that is too risky or hazardous and the Humane has to put this into consideration. Finally, Humana should consider reviewing the compensation packages for its employees and other benefits to make them a little bit competitive to increase the employees’ motivation. Possible solution to instances of employee dissatisfaction All organizations need to come with appropriate policies to address the employee motivation issues. In every country, there are laws governing the relationship between the employers and their employees. These laws stipulate the rights and freedoms of the employees with regard to their work environments and once strictly followed can improve the employee motivation. In addition the organizations need to have in place policies that will have comprehensive coverage of all the benefits that employees deserve that will adequately address all the motivational factors as well as full implementation of the same (Harpaz, 1990). Conclusion Employee motivation is an important ingredient that needs to be given a priority to prevent the employees from shifting from one job place to the other. The productivity of an organization is determined by how motivated employees are. This is because as it has been observed in several cases, motivated employees tend to work hard and more effectively. The employees are not only motivated by monetary rewarding or wages but also through other employment benefits in addition to basic wages and non-monetary factors like showing appreciation for work done through rewards and promotions. Managers should give employee motivation a priority and realize that there is direct relationship between the employee motivation and the organization’s performance (Maslow, 1943). He is not only the top player of his Era, but is quite possibly the best player to wear the uniform of a NBA team. He is the most recognizable athlete in the world and is believed to be the best there ever was, is, or ever will be. (NBA.com) A person to this magnitude has obviously a success, being able to have a family of his own and, knowing that there are thousands of people looking up to him, and being many peoples idol. To be able to stand the pressure of being a national symbol of greatness, you have to have a driving force. This driving force has been known to be the edge a lot of people have needed to make it over. Michael Jordans family helped him to fight and become one of the most influential, successful, and professional sports figures ever. Body Michael Jeffrey Jordan was born on February 17, 1963, in Brooklyn, NY, to a proud Deloris and James Jordan. (Nba.com; BioLife.com) Now this very first point may seem like no big deal but its something in itself. Jordan almost wasnt born. In 1963, when Deloris was carrying Mike her mother died unexpectedly causing her to fall into a deep depression and stress period. Fearing a miscarriage the family doctor ordered her to bed rest. (Greene 12; NBA.com) I Davis 3 always said that Michaels birth was like a sign. I lost my mother while I was carrying Michael, and he was my godsend. Michael was the happiness he sent me after a very sad time in my life. Deloris (qtd. In Halberstam 48) The near miscarriage was very bad. James (qtd. in Halberstam 49) Michael the Jordans 4th child lived in a pretty much average house, which was on the lower end of the economic pool. When Mike was 2 he had a really close brush with death. James (Mikes father) was outside tuning up his car at his parents house. The ground was still soaked from the earlier downpour. Two extension cords let him stretch a lamp from the kitchen outlet to under the hood of his car. During his labor he saw something out of the corner of his eye. Mike had escaped his playpen and, was on his way to make it a father- son- project. James ran towards him bit it was too late. Mike walked right into the junction of the wires and began playing with them. A sudden surge of current sent him flying back about 3 feet, where he landed in too much shock to cry. (Greats of the Game.com; BioLife.com) James put a net up in the backyard and the boys played all the time. Michaels older brother Larry always beat him. Growing up Mikes favorite sport was baseball, and he was quite good too! He was the MVP of Dixie League and received a scholarship to Mickey Owen Baseball Camp. Michael got better at basketball and, decided to try out for the Varsity Laney High Basketball Team but, wasnt good enough as a sophomore. Jordan, as a sophomore, played on JV and, averaged 27.8 PPG. Jordan after junior year was Davis 4 invited to play at the 5-star Camp where colleges recruited. MJ won 10 trophies including 2 MVPs. The University of North Carolina recruited Jordan. Dean Smith the winningest coach in NCAA basketball history coached Mike. (Greene 52; Halberstam 27, BioLife.com) Most people thought that Mike would come and sit the bench. They were startled when they found out he was a season opener starter. (NBA.com) Mike had a great time playing for UNC, and his nest move was to become eligible for the NBA draft. Mike was 3rd pick behind Hakeem Olajuwon (Houston)

REFLECTIVE JOURNAL- LEADERSHIP Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

REFLECTIVE JOURNAL- LEADERSHIP - Essay Example Therefore, I thought that I should change my leadership skill to get the support of my family members. I have started to learning about different types of leadership skills in order to implement in my own life as I am going through several issues. My dream is to become a successful nurse, but my family is finding it difficult to support mu dream due to inadequate financial condition of my family. Previously I believed in Autocratic leadership style in which I tend to make my own decision independently without taking suggestions of others as well as my family members. But, recent financial crisis and inadequate economic environment of my family has forced me to learn about different leadership style in order to influence my mother and other family members to support me to complete my Bachelor’s study in nursing. However, democratic leadership style can be valuable comparing to autocratic leadership style as it will help me to make my family members understand about the significance of my nursing studies as it will help me to develop prosperous professional career in near future (Wood, 2008). My previous experience and existing assumptions do have a serious impact on my action. It has been mentioned earlier that I used to believe in autocratic or authoritarian leadership style. I used to make my own decisions regarding my studies and career development aspect. My leadership style was almost ruler-centered that can be termed as abuse of power. However, recently I have understood that it was my selfishness that I wanted to chase my dream without understanding and realizing my inadequate family environment. My mother tried hard but failed to support my nursing studies. Therefore, I am working as a support manager in an organization in order to help my family to run daily life. Moreover, this aspect will influence my mother to consider my dreams regarding my professional career. Only, democratic

Networks and Security Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Networks and Security - Assignment Example On the other hand, it is not possible to have integrity existing without confidentiality. This is because the act of maintaining integrity concerns editing or changing the contents of data or a message. Therefore before integrity crime is committed then that person will have breached confidentiality (Cole, 2011). Since, he/she will have to be aware of the contents of the data or message. This occurs when the person involved is has access to the contents of the data or message either through authorization or not. Question 2 The random nonce in an SSL handshake is so that an attacker cannot replay the sequence numbers used in encrypting data sent over a network. This mechanism is effective in ensuring security of the data sent is highly secured. Random nonces are very effective in protecting data sent over networks. For instance, when Bob sends a sequence of data to Alice, an intruder by the name of Tom sniffs the message and wants to extract the data. Tom will set up a TCP connection with Bob and send the same sequence of message. Bob may think that Alice sent the same sequence of data (Lockhart, 2007). In this case, the solution would be for Bob to send different nonce for each connection. As a result, this will cause the encryption keys for the different days to be different. Random nonces are effective in providing adequate security especially when sending repeated messages over the same network. The main purpose of random nonce is to provide encryption and data security for messages or records. Question 3 An application gateway is a machine that is used in ensuring that used in proving relay services when there are different filters. Filters in most cases block the transmission of certain classes of traffic. As a result, it is possible for gateways to prevent the traffic leading to huge networks problems or bottlenecks. Although gateways provide good security for networks they may hamper traffic leading to total collapse of the network. For instance, packet filtering gateways are used in filtering data from networks (Lockhart, 2007). They do so by dropping packets which might cause problems in the network. Therefore the best solution for the case whereby gateways re used is to include a router. A router is used in routing traffic within the network and it is also utilized in connection to the internet. The advantage of a router is that it takes traffic and routes it to different machines in the network (Laet, 2005). Thus making use of a router with an application will be effective in keeping unwanted traffic out while at the same time improving efficiency in delivering data packets to different destinations. Question 4 The monoalphebetic cipher is one of the most secure data encryption methods that can be utilized in different scenarios. The monoalphabetic cipher utilizes around 1026 pairings of data in ensuring that a message unencrypted. This method utilizes paring of letter to encrypt a message. For instance in encrypting the messag e â€Å"I am a student of MSc IT† would equal to: I=s, a=m, m=h, a=m, s=I, t=u, u=y, d=v, e=c, n=j, t=u, o=k, f=x, M=h, S=I, c=b, I=s, T=u. As a result, Plaintext (I am a student of MSc IT) is equal to Ciphertext (s mh miuyvcju kx hisu). While translating cipher text â€Å"s vkjkuuasjfik† would equal plaintext: S=i, v=d, k=o, j=n, k=o, u=t, u=t, a=h, s=I, j=n, f=k, i=s, k=o. As

Professional studies - Essay Example During these periods, the tribal healers and the Shamans were entitled to the responsibility of managing illnesses and infections. Healing at this time was believed to be through the action of the supernatural powers. The application of concoction to the infected wound was a widely practiced course of healing mitigation, and supernatural powers were left to take the natural course of action (Claridge & Fabian, 2005). In Mesopotamia and Egypt at around 2000 BC, medicine was derived from the preparation of plant leaves and barks. The act of healing was at this period separated from the notion that it was supernatural, thus drugs were believed to be significant that supernatural in healing. In the ancient Greece at around 650BC, illness was viewed to be as a result of an imbalance of the body fluids. The misappropriation between the black bile, yellow bile, Phlegm and blood being responsible for the course of illness (Various, 2012). During this period, the Greek documentation through the work of Hippocratic writers stressed on lifestyle changes as an alternative to the drug therapy. During the renaissance period, monks and monasteries who were the healers believed that sins caused illnesses. However, the healers of this period applied the use of medical herbs from the gardens as a means of curing infections. The renaissance period saw the turning point in the type of medication used as there was a lot of devotion to the preparation of medicines that were easy to swallow. This point saw the beginning of the separation between the duties of the pharmacists and the physicians. There was a wider development in the knowledge of anatomy that was necessary for the performance of surgeries that had become widespread (Kemp, 2006). The dispensation and the standard for medicine preparation were thus developed. The establishment of the modern scientific methods of treatment and drug preparation owes a lot of its roots to the

Effect of Work Motivation on Job Satisfaction

Effect of Work Motivation on Job Satisfaction This study attempts to develop the effect of work motivation on job satisfaction on two big mobile telecom organizations zong and ufone. The questionnaire was developed to measure the correlation of work motivation and job satisfaction. Total number of observations was sixty and the mean for JS and WK was 3.53 and 3.99 respectively. ANOVA result was 0.042 that was not a significant level for the model that was selected. It can be concluded that, there must be some other variables that are intervening in our model and making contribution at a significant level. Thus the model has not attained the favorable level of significant and could not be used for further research. As p-value was less then .05 so it can be said that the variables chosen for the study was not highly significant. Researcher also found that overall the employees were quiet satisfied with their jobs and have their interest in their job. More than average employees were motivated to work for the organization. Some of employees think that they are not on their actual path and often feel over worked. There are many studies on job satisfaction, and work motivation around the globe but there is scarcity of this work in the local environment. Many researchers are agreed on the influences that job satisfaction is dependent on the work motivation. In past papers, researchers defined each variable and to some extent about the relationship between, work motivation, and job satisfaction. While putting a glance on the organizations around us, we can find that the main challenge for the companies is to enhance the employee performance by implementing different strategies. These strategies include compensation to employees, motivation, rewards and bonuses or team empowerment. Job satisfaction makes the employees more attentive and concerned for the organization. The private organizations also take necessary actions to improve the employees performance with the passage of time therefore the human resource management departments in organizations play a vital role to drive the organization in a certain way. If an organization have a good HRM system, therefore its possible to produce more loyalty, commitment, and motivation to spend additional effort for the organizations objectives (Pfeffer, J, 1994). Considering all the points, job satisfaction will be achieved, when the employee will be motivated to do work, and there are certain factors which influence on work motivation such as efficiency, productivity, absenteeism, turnover rates, and intention to quit (Baron, 1986; Maghradi, 1999). Motivation could be described as a driving force that makes people willingly want to put in their best in what they do. The concept of motivation is that there is no need to force or threaten people to work harder, as any such force or threat is likely to be ineffective in the long run. Rather, it is better that people should be motivated as it is believed that the driving force which results from motivation will compel people to put in their best out of willingness and not out of force or threat. Motivation is believed to lead to an increase in employees work performance. That in turn leads to an increase in overall organizational productivity levels. Furthermore, motivation is said to improve employee job satisfaction. Rationale for the study The rationale for this study was the basic psychology of the human mind about job satisfaction that a person motivated to do a task or a job will be having more satisfaction from that task or work. Secondly, the query to solve that what makes an employee a satisfied employee in an organization. The more the satisfied employees, the higher would be the organizational performance. Problem statement Researchers have analyzed that there are many factors that can effect the job satisfaction of the employees; work motivation is one of the factors. Our study will cover the impact of motivation on the job satisfaction. Objectives of research study The main purpose of this study is to identify the relationship among the work motivation and job satisfaction. The classification of objectives will be as under: Determine the level of motivation of employees. Determine the level of job satisfaction of employees. Analyze the effect of work motivation on job satisfaction. Significance of Study The research is based on the human resource management practice that is motivation. It is a deliberated fact that in our country, very few researchers are working in this area, so we have chooses this area for our research that would be helpful for further research and exploration of new ideas in this field. It will also provide an insight into the fact that how job satisfaction can be enhances within the organizations. In developing countries like Pakistan, it is required to work on such areas that can be developed to increase the productivity of employees and thus of the organizations as well. Delimitations The study will be delimited to telecommunication service organizations in Islamabad. Review of Literature Job Satisfaction Job satisfaction has remained a remarkable area of discussion in the field of management, psychology and especially in organizational behavior and human resource management, for a long period. Many economists have paid attention and inclination towards this subject in recent years (Kosteas, 2009). According to Ramayah, Jantan, and Tadisina (2001), Job satisfaction explains how employees are buoyant to come to work and how they get enforced to perform their jobs. What are the things who make happy an employee on doing work and not to leave the job? Other researchers narrate job satisfaction as being the outcome of the workers appraisal of extent to which the work environment fulfillment the individuals needs (Dawis Lofquist 1984). According to Locke (1969), job satisfaction is a state of emotional gladness, results from the achievement of the goals that one get through performing his part of contribution inside an organization. Rao (2005) in his study discussed that satisfaction at the job for a person acts as a motivation to work. It is not the self satisfaction, happiness or self-contentment but the satisfaction of the job. It is the combination of psychological environmental circumstances that affect the person for his satisfaction with the job (Khan 2006). Thus Aswathappa (2003) discussed about the determinants of job satisfaction as it said that the wage payment and monetary rewards are the two determinants. Different organizations employ different wage system and other rewards. The organizations pay wages and salaries along with incentives, perquisites, and non-monetary benefits. Velnampy (2008), in his study on job attitude and employees performance concluded that job satisfaction contains positive influence on the performance of the employees as it enhances job involvement and the higher performance also makes people feel more satisfied and committed to the organization. The satisfaction and performance of the employee works in a cycle and are interdependent. Job satisfaction and involvement of the employee leads him to have high levels of performance. Shahu Gole (2008), in his empirical study of effect of Job satisfaction on Performance, they concluded that the job satisfaction factor is not been taken under consideration by the companies and companies need to develop plans so that their employees can show superior performance. Performance level lowers with lower level satisfaction scores. There should be some awareness programs, pertaining to the stress satisfaction level in the industries. It will help organizations to understand the benefits of stress knowledge in relation to satisfaction and goal achievement in the industry. Shah Shah (2008), in his study of job satisfaction and fatigue variables found the negative relationship between the fatigue and satisfaction from the job. The fatigue has found as negative predictor of Job Satisfaction. The study clearly indicates the different issues for Call Centre employees in the context of Indian economy in which the researcher said that there are various factors leading to dissatisfaction that are on the job and off the job. Its also been discussed in the study that if fatigue get minimized, job satisfaction can be improved by various innovative and encouraging strategies. Work Motivation Luthans (1998) asserts that motivation is the process that arouses, energizes, directs, and sustains behavior and performance. That is, it is the process of stimulating people to action and to achieve a desired task. One way of stimulating people is to employ effective motivation, which makes workers more satisfied with and committed to their jobs. Intrinsic motivation, however, can be defined as the motivation to perform an activity for it, in order to experience the pleasure and satisfaction inherent in the activity (Deci, Connell, Ryan, 1989). According to cognitive evaluation theory and self-determination theory (Gagne Deci, 2005), rewards that are interpreted as information about ones competence and satisfy individuals need for autonomy, will enhance intrinsic motivation. Simon (1997, p.276) argued in his research work, why does the motivation required? The fundamental challenge of all companies is to encourage their employees to work for the organizational goals, whereas Pfeffer (1998) has argued in his research that in the long run, the success can be achieved by those companies that use to manage their employees; creating significant work and having satisfied employees, taking both side by side is the way to organizational effectiveness. Frey (1997) showed that extrinsic rewards, like monetary benefits may interact negatively with the intrinsic work motivation. It has just seen that there is crucially dependence of intrinsic motivation on the extrinsic incentives. Wright and Pandey (2005) described in their work that emotional attachment and loyalty is one of the most important factors of employee motivation that binds the employee to stick to the organization, many other benefits associated with the organization are also part of motivation. Allen Meyer (1990) have tried to answer the question that is; how an organization can analyze that whether it is keeping its employees happy, motivated and loyal to the organization? There is no pet answer as the work motivation is a counter effect of many factors linked to employees; how they interact with organization and what views they have about the organization. Work motivation can be evaluated by the degree of feeling attachment, obligations, and rewards in working in organization. Horwitz et al (2003) predicted that employees get high motivation through challenging work environment and support of the top management. If the employees are competitive and want to do work with full efficiency as it will utilize all their capabilities, then challenging work is the best motivator. Many of the employees like to make relationships and thus need to contact more and more to the higher authorities, so making more regular contacts make them feel that they are been observed and work with more motivation. Locke and Latham (2004, p.388) defined the work motivation as outcome of both internal and external factors that force the employee to work more excitedly. Bacon et al (1996), Deshpande and Golhar (1994), and Julien (1998) have stressed upon the fact that employees have the key position in maintaining a competitive edge over the competitive market by a business. Relation between Work Motivation and Job Satisfaction Gupta Joshi (2008) discussed about the relationship between the Job satisfaction and motivation for the employees. Productivity in the work of an employee is outcome of satisfaction and productivity can be taken as indicator of satisfaction. Employees have to spend most of their time at workplace and need satisfaction at that place. Herzberg et al.s (1959) has described a relationship between two variables as Job Satisfaction is the result of two kinds of factors, intrinsic and extrinsic factor; intrinsic factors appraised the job satisfaction and extrinsic factors cause dissatisfaction and reduce the level of job satisfaction. The extrinsic factors were also called as hygiene factors. According to Herzberg, the hygiene factors results in the form of dissatisfaction and these were external or environmental features e.g. company policy and administration, supervision, work conditions, salary and benefits. The intrinsic factors are also called satisfiers and motivators, included creative or challenging work, responsibility and advancement opportunities. Kovach (1987) also tried to identify the relationship; the need to provide the basic necessities of life motivates most people which in return make the employees satisfied from their jobs. Whereas Brown (1996) examines that when an organization is having some satisfied or delighted employees, it is likely to have satisfied or delighted customers. Brown said the employee satisfied and delightedness as a prerequisite of customer satisfaction. Thus Wagar (1998) explained that in the global market, one can be successful when it has highly motivated, skilled, and satisfied workforce that can produce quality goods at low costs. Hypothesis This study was conducted to test the following hypothesis: H1: Employee Work Motivation has direct positive effect on Job Satisfaction Research Methodology Keeping in mind what researchers have discussed in their work with relation to the effect of work motivation on job satisfaction of employee, this paper is been designed and the research is been conducted to have a clear view of the relationship. In this paper, job satisfaction is been analyzed through the change in work motivation. A questionnaire was designed to collect the required data for motivation and satisfaction. Data will be analysed using descriptive statistics including mean, median and standard deviation. Regression Analysis will be carried out to study the effect of work motivation on job satisfaction of employees. Population The population of the study will be mobile telecom organizations and their employees in Islamabad. There are five mobile telecom companies that are providing services of telecommunication to their customers. Sample and Response Rate The sample for this study was drawn from two organizations in the telecom sector. The sample will include 30 employees; thirty questionnaires will be distributed in both the organizations. Description of the Instrumentation Questionnaire to find the response of employees regarding Work Motivation and Job Satisfaction Work Motivation the Independent Variable Job Satisfaction the Dependent Variable Case Employees Construction A modified questionnaire tagged Work Motivation, and Job Satisfaction Scale (WMJSS) was used for the collection of data on the study. The questionnaire was specifically designed to accomplish the objectives of the study. The first section collected information such as age, sex, qualification and, professional status. The second section contained the items, and was divided into two parts. Part1. This measures job satisfaction, which included 7 questions. The item was adopted from Job satisfaction, Cook et al. (1981). Part2. This measures work motivation, which included 8 questions. The item was adopted from http://jinnahprojects.com, time: 3.26am and date: 19th dec, 2009. Both parts using a Likert scale ranging from Strongly Agree= SA; Agree = A; Somewhat agree = SWD; Somewhat Disagree = SWD; and Strongly Disagree = SD. Pilot Testing We have distributed our questionnaire to five employees of Zong and get the response from them. We have modified the questionnaire accordingly and consulted other people for assistance. Finalization After getting feedback and the amendments in the questionnaire, we consulted a senior teacher and got his satisfactory remarks about that. Thus the questionnaire is valid and reliable. Theoretical Model Job Satisfaction Work Motivation Independent Variable Dependent Variable Data Collection Convenient sampling was used to get data and two departments in Zong and two departments of Ufone were visited. In Zong, IT department and customer relationship department were been under observation and in Ufone, marketing and customer relation department. Sample of thirty was been distributed and got feedback from both the organization. Also verbal conversations were made to have conformity of the data collected. All the data collected is been edited by the researchers. There was very high response rate as it was a convenient sampling and getting feedback was quiet different from other sampling methods. Data Analysis The following statistical tools were implemented to get the findings: SPSS Inc 17.0 MS-Excel 2003 The following measures have been used to identify the relationship: Means and Standard Deviations will be calculated, that will provide us a broader view of the data, how much people are satisfied and up to what extend the psychology of employees differ in a work environment. Regression Analysis will be carried out to determine the effect of independent variables on dependent variables. Research findings Data Representation The frequency table of job satisfaction and work motivation is showing the scattered data in a group form. The standard deviations are showing the diversity of data which is indicating that there is a variety of opinions between the employees. Analysis of variance shows that how much the model is valid and what is the significance of the model. In this research work, significance level is 0.042 that is not a significant level for the model that was selected. It can be concluded that there must be some other variables that are intervening in our model and making contribution at a significant level. Thus the model has not attained the favorable level of significant and could not be used for further research. The p-value shows the significance of variable. As p-value is less then .05 so it can be said that the variables chosen for the study are not highly significant. These results are outcome of the wrong model selected. This study has made us know that there should be a check for the variables that one use in a model. The value of R square is too low that can be used for the relationship analysis of the variables. The value of beta is showing the positive relationship between the dependent and independent variables but not a strong relationship. If there is some relation, that would be positive direct relation. The table shows the correlation between job satisfaction and work motivation Findings Overall the employees are quiet satisfied with their jobs and have their interest in their job. More than average employees are motivated to work for the organization. Some of employees think that they are not on their actual path. Many employees think that the organization hasnt fulfilled their promises, what they do in beginning especially regarding Promotion. There is positive relationship between the motivation and job satisfaction. Employees often feel overworked. Conclusions and Discussion Suggestions To increase the job satisfaction level of the employees the company should concentrate mainly on the incentive and reward structure rather than the motivational session. Ideal employees should concentrate on their job. Educational qualification can be the factor of not an effective job. Company should give promotion to those employees who deserve it. For the researchers who want to do research on such variables, must see the validity of the model and intervening variables that may affect the relationship strongly. Limitations of Study However data is collected with full level of our efforts, yet there remain some flaws in our study. While doing research, many problems are there to be faced by the researcher. The prime difficulties which are been faced in collection of data in this study are discussed below: Short time period: The time period for carrying out the research was short as a result of which many facts have been left unexplored. Lack of resources: Lack of time and other resources as it was not possible to conduct survey at large level. Small no. of respondents: Only sixty employees have been chosen that was a small number, to represent whole of the population. Unwillingness of respondents: While collection of the data many consumers were unwilling to fill the questionnaire due to lack of time. Respondents were having a feeling of wastage of time for them. Small area for research: The area for study was limited to specific organizations that are quite a small area to judge job satisfaction level.

Slovakia Economic Analysis :: essays papers

Slovakia Economic Analysis Country: Slovak Republic Formation of the Slovak Republic The Slovak Republic, or Slovakia, is located in Eastern Europe with a population of 5.4 million people and borders the countries of Poland, Austria, the Ukraine, and the Czech Republic (The World Bank). As originally part of the former nation of Czechoslovakia, the Slovak Republic has only recently begun to write its own history (Abizadeh, p. 171). During 1989 many revolts took place against eastern European governments under communism, including Czechoslovakia (Slovakia.Org, â€Å"20th Century†). Both Slovaks and Czechs staged massive protests against communism in Czechoslovakia and ended the communist regime in November 1989 (Slovakia.Org, â€Å"20th Century†). Under the new non-communist system of government, the two republics of Czechoslovakia were established: the Slovak Republic and the Czech Republic (Embassy of the Slovak Republic). In June 1990, with the federal and republic-level governments in place, free elections were held for the first time in the country since 1946 (Slovakia.Org, â€Å"20th Century†). The main concern of the new government was the transformation of Czechoslovakia from a state-controlled to a free market economy (Embassy of the Slovak Republic). Disputes arose between the two republics about reform process which focused on privatization, the encouragement of foreign investment, policy of macro-economic stabilization, price liberalization, and liberalization of foreign trade (Slovakia.Org, â€Å"20th Century†). The Czech Republic was more economically developed than the industrial-based economy of Slovakia (Slovakia.Org, â€Å"20th Century†). The transition to a market economy left the Slovak Republic to endure greater economic hardships than the Czech Republic (Sovakia.Org, â€Å"20th Century†). For example, the federal government chose to dramatically cut the country’s defense industry, resulting in a large decrease in industrial production and a large rise in unemployment in Slovakia (Slovakia.Org, â€Å"Slovak Economy†). This took place because the economy that rose out of the communist era in Slovakia was based on industrial production, particularly on weapons and military equipment (Slovakia.Org, â€Å"Slovak Economy†). There was a great difference of opinions between the Slovaks and Czechs about the nature and pace of economic reform in Czechoslovakia (Slovakia.Org, â€Å"20th Century†). The disagreements delayed the reform process and also the acceptance of a new constitution (Slovakia.Org, â€Å"20th Century†). It became obvious that the current form of government could meet the demands of both republics. As a result, Slovakia declared its sovereignty in July 1992, in other words, its laws took higher priority than those of the federal government (Slovakia.

Final research HND Business Essay

By The Name Allah the Most Merciful and Almighty Executive Summary Of Research on Basant or Spring Festival Event for the research was decided as â€Å"Basant or Spring Festival Lahore†. Basant was started 1300-1400 hundred century. But in near past the event was become controversial. Some religious activist called it Hinduism while some people in taking lead in kite-flying start taking lives of people and this activity was banned. Its was business event too and contributing national income. Was a beneficial for hotel and food industry etc. Our research was too found out the reasons for banning it. The beneficiaries of the festival and out put from the event and Myths regarding the events as well as give some recommendation. For the purpose a detailed proposal were made and presented to supervisor after approval of the proposal. Work was started on research. Literature was reviewed for facts finding. A questionnaire were made and distributed in 500 people and collected, interviews were conducted from different stake holders and other techniques of data collection were applied. Data were organized and presented in percentage and graphically. Analysis was made. The research findings were that basant or spring festival is better business activity accepted people of the country and encouraged by the business community. Basant has nothing with religion. It is celebrated with seasonal change. Some religious groups are against it because of the immoral & un-ethical musical and dance shows during the festival. Some people use alcohol in public places and commit crime these should be stopped. Kite-flying with harmful wires should be banned as it takes lives as well as damages electricity lines etc. The events mainly benefits hotel, food, garments, transport, music, traitor industry and overall positively affect the market of Lahore. Government can provide better law & order situation too public and Lahore is feasible in security prospective for spring festival. Literature Review Of Basant or Spring Festival Basant is centuries old cultural festival of Punjab. It was started in 1300-1400 century. But in near past got controversial as the some religious groups called it sign of Hinduism and show zero tolerance over it. According to Dr. B. S. Nijjar’s book, â€Å"Punjab under the Later Mughals†. According to him, when Zakariya Khan (1707-1759) was the governor of Punjab, a Hindu of Sialkot, by the name of Hakeekat Rai Bakhmal Puri spoke words of disrespect for the Prophet Muhammad (saw) and his daughter Fatima (ra). He was arrested and sent to Lahore to await trial. The non-Muslim population was stirred to request Zakariya Khan to lift the death sentence given to Hakeekat Rai but he did not accede to their request. Eventually the death penalty was carried out and the entire non-Muslim population went into mourning. As a tribute to his memory, a prosperous Hindu, Kalu Ram initiated the Basant ‘mela’ in (Marrhi) Kot Khwaja Saeed (Khoje Shahi) in Lahore. (This place is now known as Baway di marrhi. ) It is the last stop on the route of Wagon no. 60 from Bhati Gate. Dr. B. S. Nijjar states on Page no. 279 of his book that the Basant ‘mela’ is celebrated in memory of Hakeekat Rai. Another myth about Basant is â€Å"It is said that Nizamuddin Auliya had no children. He had adopted his nephew who died at the age of 20. Amir Khusro tried to cheer the bereaved Nizamuddin, but in vain. One day while Amir Khusro was walking in the fields, he saw some young women dressed in yellow clothes and celebrating Basant. Khusro donned a yellow ghagra ad covered himself with a chunni and sang the qawwali — Sakal basant aayo ri. Seeing he dressed in yellow clothes, Nizamuddin became cheerful. † But majority of the society consider all the as myth and has opinion that It is a seasonal festival of indo-Pak and has no religious aspects. It is celebrated at spring on starting of winter on fourth or fifth day of lunar month (Magh). Yellow is mainly used for basant as its is narrated for wheat row and mustard blossoms in the seasons. Yellow color is considered as the color of Spring. Yellow outfits are worn in these days mostly. In pre-partition India Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs all celebrated Basant. Basant festivals held in all major cities of Punjab. Yellow clothes were worn; men wore yellow turbans and women yellow dupattas and saris. It was common to sway swings among Hindu, Muslim and Sikh women together and Basant’s traditional songs were sung that reflected the liveliness and romance of life in Punjab. Kite flying was common but on a small scale with decency. Kite flying is also part of the festival. Most of kite flyers are illiterate and labor class. They mostly use unethical ways for winning kites competition which leads to deaths of valuable lives. This factor decrease the color of this great festival from last 50 Years and the slogan is shouting Celebrate Basant- but don’t snatch away lives. Gallup Pakistan Survey: Basant as Business activity Basant is high appreciated business activity as people from the whole country rush towards Lahore and hotel industry , food industry , music and other tourism industry boost up with the festival. It is highly encouraged by business community of Lahore. According to a survey 11% of the whole year business is three days of basant in Hotel and Food industry. Same effects brought on other industries. Research Back Ground In our country every business activity is banned due to some accident or religious pressure groups same controversy is with spring or Basant festival. I want to find out the financial benefits from this type of festival and the aim of pressure groups. As part of the academic requirement, in the Higher National Diploma program in IPS, Peshawar; for completing diploma of Business Studies the students are required to write a eport for each one of their core units, this one being Research Project. buy custom Denial of Service in Computer Communication essay

buy custom Denial of Service in Computer Communication essay Introduction Denial of service (DoS) attack is usually hard to differentiate from other regular activities within a computer network. It can be associated with an observed reduction in response time while accessing information from a website or network that an attack is being undertaken. Denial of service in computer communication is thus defined as the incident whereby a hacker impedes usage of information and services by the rightful users, from a certain website or network. A hacker manages to prevent users from reaching their e-mails, information, online accounts in addition to other services that depend on the affected section of the network. Almost every computer user is vulnerable to these attacks (US-CERT;, 2004). This article will centre on understanding denial of service in a computer network or a website. It will draw out some of the effective ways of preventing such attacks. The most frequent and noticeable form of DoS attack takes place when a hacker fills a computer network with a lot of information, thereby affecting its computational capabilities. What follows is that when a person writes a URL (uniform resource locator) for a certain website into his or her browser, a request is sent to the server to allow the person view information in the site (US-CERT;, 2004). In case the website is overloaded with such request, its response time will be slow or even not be able to process the request at al. This is because the server can only process a definite number of requests at any given time. The user is therefore denied a service from the website. In addition, another common attack that results to denial of service is use of spam email messages. Every individual with an email account is allocated a particular quota, which helps to bind the information capacity that a person can have in his or her email account at any particular time (Abliz, 2011). When the attacker sends many email messages to the account, he utilizes the quota thereby preventing the person from receiving genuine email massages. Due to the recent increase in modern internet viruses, proportionate number of compromised computers and computer networks has ensued. As a result, these computers can be used to attack most of the websites (US-CERT;, 2004). Attackers normally end up extorting legitimate users huge sums of money to cease their attacks. Types of Denial of Service Attacks SYN Attack After a client sends a request to the server in a computer network, a session is established between them using the Transport Control Program (TCP). However, there is a small space that is left to take care of the messages used for initiating the session. They are packets of information which comprise of a SYN field that searches for the order in the swapping over of messages (Abliz, 2011). In this case, what a hacker does is to send a big number of connection prompts then cease from replying to them. As a result, the initial packet is left in the buffer thereby denying other genuine connection requests from being accommodated (Abliz, 2011). Although the packet is eventually dropped, it ends up denying other rightful users from accessing the information in the website. In case this problem occurs, a network administrato can employ local tools to mitigate it. The size of the buffer and the timeout period can be adjusted to minimize chances of its occurrence. Teardrop Attack In this type of attack, a hacker targets the manner in which a relatively large packet of information is handled by a router for fragmentation purposes by the internet protocol (IP). An offset is usually identified at the beginning of the first packet and the fragmented packets are later reassembled on reception (Vacca, 2009). Nevertheless, in case the computer on the receiving end does not have an established plan to handle this situation, the overall system can crash thereby denying its rightful users the required services. Smurf Attack In this type of attack, a hacker sends an Internet Protocol (IP) ping request to the receiving computer network. Consequently, this packet requests to be distributed to various hosts in the local network on the receiving end. This packet also specifies that it is from another website, which is intended to receive denial of service (Vacca, 2009). The target computer is therefore flooded with ping replies which prevent it from differentiating the actual traffic. Distributed denial of service attack This is an incident whereby a hacker uses someone else computer to launch an attack on another computer. The hacker normally takes advantage of the available weaknesses in someone else personal computer. He can use tools and software that forces someone else computer to send spam messages to certain email addresses (Vacca, 2009). This type of attack is known as distributed since it includes many computers and networks to initiate the attack. Handling DoS Attacks Generally, a person or an institution can defend itself from DoS attacks through preparation, detection and reaction stages. Preparation stage comprises coming up with a security policy, development of good and effective security protocols among other methods. This phase also ensures that the most important services are independent and therefore they are separate from each other (Dawson Raghavan, 2011). Furthermore, there is need to create a collaborative plan with the internet service provider in addition to other response plans at the event of an attack. The detection stage is supposed to occur automatically. In order to respond within the shortest time possible, the attack should be detected early enough (Molsa, 2006). The longer it takes for a network administrator to detect an attack, the more the loss incurred and possibilities of counteracting the attack. The other stage is known as the reaction phase. It comprises of two sub-sections, categorization and mitigation. In the categorization stage, the attacked user should authenticate if the attack is actually going on and also be able to evaluate it so as to identify the notable features of the attack. When the nature of the attack is identified, it helps in mitigation stage. For a long time, network administrators have been using labor-intensive procedures to respond to DoS attacks. These procedures are usually labor intensive since they involve tracing the route path of the attack traffic manually so as to identify the source. However, there are more elaborate automatic systems which are used to provide quick response to such attacks (US-CERT;, 2004). It is worth noting that reaction strategies usually centre on ways of mitigating the impacts of the attack. Defense Mechanisms Every host on the internet can be a target to DoS attack no matter how complex its security system is. The safety of computer networks is therefore dependent on how much protection is given to other hosts that are connected to the internet. It is of paramount importance to detect compromised computer devices connected to the internet to aid in protection against DoS attacks (Dawson Raghavan, 2011). The effectiveness in defending against DoS attacks is dependent on how fast attack is detected and counteractive measures employed. When connected to the internet, the following defense options should be employed to eliminate loopholes for DoS attack. Any service that is unnecessary should be done away with. This helps to reduce chances of exploitation by a hacker to access susceptible areas of the network attacks (Dawson Raghavan, 2011). Therefore, any application on a computer that is not in use or relevant, should be removed. Additionally, a firewall should be installed in any computer or network to monitor access to the network. The firewall helps to filter out the general public from accessing information that is shared in a local network. Connections to an ISP (internet service provider) is supposed to be well looked into. Also, access to the wireless Local area networks and other access routes to the internet should also be well monitored against attacks (Dawson Raghavan, 2011). This implies that routers should be well configured to prevent creating points of vulnerability. People should be encouraged to use passwords that are not easy to guess and that cannot be easily cracked by hackers. The passwords can also be changed from time to time. It is very important to use antivirus software that is always up to date. This will help to detect and eliminate viruses effectively (Vacca, 2009). Users should be very careful when accessing attached files and links sent through emails. They should also take caution while installing software on their personal computers (Vacca, 2009). There is need to read and understand the license agreement before software installation. However, most of the time, people do not pay attention to the license agreement requirements which defines the status of the contract between the user and the manufacturer of the software. Sometimes, these agreements allow third parties to access crucial information which can later provide best avenues for DoS attack. Conclusion Denial of service attacks is currently a common problem on the internet. It encourages cyber-terrorism and other related attacks on the internet that demands illegal extortions. It is an activity that can cost legitimate users huge amounts of money. The saddest thing is that there are readily available tools that necessitate execution of these illegal activities (Vacca, 2009). However, when effective defense mechanisms are employed as outlined above, an individual or an organization is safe from these threats. Buy custom Denial of Service in Computer Communication essay
