Lesson Plan Justification and Analysis Essay - 3213 Words

Analysis of the three identified stages stated on the lesson planner shall take place within this assignment. Links will be shown between the teaching methods that were incorporated in this lesson planner which met particular learning characteristics, traits and needs of the group or an individual(s) and relevant educational and theoretical principles. The lesson planner has been placed in the appendices, as a referral resource, for this assignment. An area on the lesson planner labelled, ‘Implementing the Lesson,’ (see Page 5 of Appendices One) illustrates the timings and activities of the session. However, since submitting this lesson plan I can determine that three are kinaesthetic learners, whereby the y, â€Å"think best when moving,† (ibid). A Research Into The Reform Of Education - 967 Words

Through my research into the reform of education, I have had my eyes open to some of the most terrifying and most positive potential change that my future may hold. With my upbringing, I was taught in some of the best schools in St. Tammany Parish. The teachers were always there for you and your needs, the facilities were kept clean and safe, and the neighborhood I grew up in was actually pretty good. I have seen the school system through the eyes of a student, but now I am beginning to look at it as a future educator. Michelle Rhee is the Chancellor for Washington’s District of Columbia, and her task was to turn the school system on its head to improve student achievement. She has several years experience in dealing with the school system in its entirety, many do not believe in her methods. One person that is completely against her is Diane Ravitch, a woman who has served as the United States Assistant Secretary of Education in her past, and is currently working as a researc h professor at New York University s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. Ravitch has also been working as a historian of education and an educational policy analyst. I believe it is safe to say that she knows a thing or two about education in our country. Guhyasmaja Akshobhyavjra with Consort Essay For this paper, I have chosen the paintings that captivated my attention the most when I went to the Rubin Museum of Art. Frankly, I was not expecting much from Himalayan-Tibetian art. Nevertheless, when I saw Guhyasmaja Akshobhyavjra with Consort and Shri Devi, I completely changed my opinion and perspective. There was no doubt that I would choose these paintings for my homework assignment. In order to understand them, one needs to know a little bit about Tibetan culture which emerged from different Buddhist practices, namely Mahayana Buddhism and Vajrayana. They both utilize different techniques that fuse a variety of visualizations during meditation; therefore, most of Tibetan art may be seen as aids to these visualizations. Tantric dieties also play a key role in the esoteric religious practices in the Himalayas. These deities personify many human qualities and may appear either peaceful or wrathful. Undoubtedly, the influence of these tantric deities is clearly shown on my paintings Guhyasmaja Akshobhyavjra with Consort and Shri Devi. The composition of these Tibetan paintings is very extraordinary and differs from what most of us expects to see in the work of art due to strong religious components and references incorporated in the creation of these paintings. One may notice the rigid hierarchy among the figures that ultimately affects the whole composition. In Buddhism, there are various gods and goddesses who can be divided into several categories depending on their main purposes, like the protectors and the wisdom kings. On the paintings one may find some very fearsome deities aiming to scare away demons and evil spirits. For example, in Shri Devi Dorje Rabtenma, the central deity is a human-like creature that rides a horse and swings his sword. It is surrounded by dozens of other figures. On the very top, one can see Buddhists devotees who pray with their heads titled forward. On the bottom and the sides, there are diffident kinds of demons hiding in the bushes or reaching out their hands to the central deity. On the other hand, in Guhyasmaja Akshobhyavjra with Consort, the central deity is not frightening; it is rather peaceful in appearance and resembles a Hindu god, Vishnu. Just like that of the first panning, the composition of Guhyasmaja Akshobhyavjra with Consort is filed with the main, central deity and then many other secondary figures on different sides of the painting. By the color palette, one may easily identify the origins of these paintings. It is very vibrant and colorful. The materials (Ground Mineral Pigment on Cotton) used are also very common for that region at the time. The skin of the deities both fearsome and peaceful is colored in black which presumably emphasizes their importance in the eyes of the viewer, and one can tell right away what figure(s) he or she sees on the paintings. It is worth mentioning that secondary figures are often (not always) colored differently. They might have different skin tones and colors from yellow to blue. They are absolutely magical and mysterious creatures, primarily demons and evil spirits, which may take a great variety of forms and shapes, and their appearance is only limited by the imagination of the artist. Additionally, the painting are ornamented with floral patterns all over the place. The artists attempted to fill in the blank space in order to create an illusion of the unified scenes; although, the secondary figures do not seem to interact with each other much on both paintings. For a not Himalayan-born person, these paintings may seem a little bit too hard to fully understand. At first glance, one notices the huge difference between European and Asian art. Langston Hughes Essays (1227 words) - Harlem Renaissance

Langston Hughes The Harlem Renaissance was a great and powerful era in black history. Blues and Jazz flourished throughout the streets of New York, and young black artist began to arise an important part of this era had to be the inspirational writings of Mr. Langston Hughes. Born in Joplin, Missouri, Hughes was raised by his grandmother after his parents had divorced. He graduated from high school in Cleveland, Ohio and went off to Mexico to live with his father for fifteen months. While in Mexico, Hughes lived a very rural life and wrote many of his first poems which although never published began to distinguish him as a writer. He soon returned to home for a short period in 1923 before he joined the crew of the SS Malone bound for Africa. From there he visited many places including Paris, Venice and Genoa before once again returning to America, to live in Harlem, New York. Although it was not until 1926 that Hughes was officially discovered as a poet, he wrote many poems while still in high school. While working in Washington D.C. as a busboy, Hughes left three of his poems beside the plate of Vachel Lindsey, an American poet, who liked Hughes' poetry and helped him publicize his writings. Living in Harlem, he soon discovered the Culture and literary circle of the New Negro Writers. As best said by the Health Anthology of American Literature, ?Hughes made the spiritual, blues and jazz the basis of his poetic expressions.? Which in fact he did in some works such as The Negro Speaks of Rivers, and The Weary Blues. Most of his influences came from fellow black writers. Names such as, Dubois, Locke, Jesse Redmonfaset, Jean Toomer, Arna Bontemps and Carl Van Vechten, inspired Hughes in his form and writing style. His poems often portrayed the trials, tribulations, struggles and thoughts of a young Negro growing up in the twenties through sixties. His main goal was to concern about the treatment of African Americans in this country, and to pursue civil and social justice. One of his most famous works would be his continuing sage of Jesse B. Semple also known as Simple. Hughes wrote columns about this fictional character, who dealt with very non-fictional problems. Jesse, was really Hughes' voice who expressed the views and ideas of young black Americans. Creating Simple to be smart, strong witted and wise, allowed Hughes to publish and undermind the standard of our pretentious society, while ironically and humorously pointing out the hypocritical nature of American Racism. Hughes went on writing four series of writings about Simple including Simple speaks his mind (1950), Simple takes a wife (1953), Simple Strikes a claim (1957), and Simples Uncle Sam (1965). Hughes used a variety of themes in both his poetry and his prose. His voice was very moving when he read his poems publicly. His voice was both rich and poetic and gave strong inspiration and love to the black community. He was a great writer who completed a two volume autobiography, and edited many anthologies and pictorial volumes. Hughes dazzled writing for forty years and never gave up protesting for the rights of African Americans. He gave many motivational speeches across the nation supporting the black movement. Hughes continued his career publishing many books of poetry and prose. One of his particularly interesting poems was this one entitled, Cross. Cross My old man's a white old man, and my old mothers black. If I ever cursed my old white man, I take my curses back. If ever I cursed my black old mother, and wished she were in hell. I'm sorry for that evil wish, and now I wish her well. My old man died in a fine big house, My ma died in a shack. I wonder where I'm going to die, Being neither white nor black. This poem explores the deepest emotions and troubles of a young man born into a world of confusion. Confused by his heritage but arrogant in his pride. He is growing up in the whirl of a white society, and cannot decide whether he is white or black. Hughes, using a black mother and white father, completely makes it easy for the reader to understand and almost foreshadow where this poem is going. It
